This species is similar to Phyllidia ocellata and P. willani, but it has minute, scattered opaque white spots on the body, black rings at the base of some tubercles and a pale yellow marginal border. Like most species of phyllidilis it produces a pungent noxious chemical that is toxic to fish and crustacean predators.
