The adult of this species has variable bicolor with a brown head and forebody and pale green rear body or vice versa. There is a green band from snout to pectoral fin. Sometimes, there is an elongated yellow patch on tail base. The sub-adult has a pale yellowish-green to light gray body with a dark gray tail and a bright yellow pectoral fin. Lives solitary or forms groups in reef areas, 8-40m depth.
