The adult of this species has variable bicolor with brown head and forebody and pale green rear body or vice versa. There is a green band from snout to pectoral fin. Sometimes, there is an elongate yellow patch on tail base. The subadult has a pale yellowish green to light gray body with dark gray tail and bright yellow pectoral fin. Lives solitary or forms groups in reef areas, 8 - 40 m depth.
