For the adult, this species has a green body with pink to lavender scale edges. There is a large pale yellowish to greenish patch with a green border on their cheek. They also have a dark green margin and borders on their tail. The sub-adult has a dark brown body with three or four faint pale whitish bars. The tail base is orange to bright yellow. They live solitary or form groups in reef areas, 3-35m depth.
