The adult of this species has a highly variable green to purplish or bluish body with a pink patch on the pectoral fin region. Usually, there is a lime green saddle on tail base and a green patch on its cheek. The subadult has a gray back and reddish lower body with four wide brown bars on midbody and narrow yellowish bars between its tail base. Lives solitary or forms small groups in reef areas, 2 - 18 m depth.
