The adult of this species has a highly variable green to purplish or bluish body with a pink patch on the pectoral fin region. Usually, there is a lime green saddle on their tail base and a green patch on its cheek. The subadult has a gray back and reddish lower body with four wide brown bars on their midbody and narrow yellowish bars between their tail base. Lives solitary or forms small groups in reef areas, 2-18m depth.
