SKELETON SHRIMP

Caprellid sp.
« »
Caprellids are very small crustaceans, usually seen in great numbers on algae, covering gorgonian sea fans, soft corals and hydroids. When you look at Denise pigmy seahorse, look closer on the sea fan, it is usually covered with these tiny Amphipods. Skeleton shrimp can have various colour, can be orange or purple or spotted, but they mainly are transparent. The female cares for her young by carrying them on their shoulders, protecting them from attacks of cannibalistic males.
