Has a tan body with dark spots and a crosshatch pattern, a pale orangish snout and cheeks, and a yellow to orange margin on fins. Solitary, and they nest in sand or rubble, and their size is up to 60 cm. At the juvenile stage they have a white base color with a yellow belly. They also have 4 back saddle bars and scattered blue spots on their body.
