This species has a purplish gray body with longitudinal rows of orange spots on the side of the body that sometimes merges to form stripes toward the back and orange spots or bands on their head. It also has a dark spot behind their gill cover and another on their pectoral fin base. Lives in reef areas, in 5-20 m depth.
