This species has a pale yellowish to reddish brown or bluish gray body with a red to orange iris and a purplish stripe below the eye which extends onto the gill cover. Also, there is a dappled pattern of lavender markings on the upper head between eyes and mouth. Lives in reef areas, between 15-70 m depth.
