SPOTTED BOX CRAB

There are several species of Calappa in Lembeh strait. They all burrow in soft sandy and muddy bottoms. Their shiny carapace can be from cream to brown, and they are sometimes covered in dark spots. Box crabs feed on mollusks, opening the shell with their powerful claw. They are only found occasionally.
