This species has a dark brown body with a black tail and several blackish bars on their mid-side. Occasionally, the central area is pale. For males, there is a patch of long black spines in front of their tail base. For females, there is a patch of short bristles in front of their tail base. Lives solitary or in pairs in reef areas, in 3-18m depth.
